Academic programs
The Department of Communication offers six majors, five minors, and two certifications that prepare students for a variety of careers interacting with various forms of media.
Global Communication, BA
A student majoring in global communication must complete the major core requirements for a total of 63-67 hours (plus cognates), the general studies program, and all baccalaureate degree requirements.

Strategic Communication, BA
A student majoring in strategic communication must complete the major core requirements for a total of 60 hours (plus cognates), the general studies program, and all baccalaureate degree requirements.

Music Production, BMUS
Students majoring in the interdisciplinary major of music production must complete a minimum of 91 quarter hours with 46 quarter hours in music and 45 quarter hours in communication. In addition, students must complete the cognates, general studies program, and baccalaureate degree requirements.

Pre-Speech Language Pathology, AS
Students completing the following core curriculum and the AS general studies requirements will be awarded an AS degree in Pre-Speech Language Pathology. This degree will help prepare the student for admission to Speech-Language Pathology at Loma Linda University and may also apply to other professional programs.

Drama minor
The drama program gives students exposure to acting, performance, directing, production, and drama writing. A student minoring in drama must complete 30 quarter hours.
Journalism minor
A minor in journalism gives students insight into the world of writing, editing, and public relations. A student minoring in journalism must complete 30 quarter hours.
Speech Communication minor
A minor in speech communication will give students the essential skills of interpersonal and nonverbal communication. Small group communication, and persuasive speech. A student minoring in speech communication must complete 30 quarter hours.
Global Communication minor
Much like the major, the global communication minor is centered around multicultural communication and media. A minimum of one quarter must be spent studying abroad at a school through Adventist Colleges Abroad. A student minoring in global communication must complete 30 quarter hours.
Professional Writing Certificate
Students seeking this certificate will gain practical skills to write successfully and effectively at a professional level across industries, in both print and digital formats. The certificate is open to degree-seeking students and non-degree-seeking students.
Social Media & Digital Marketing Certificate
Students seeking this certificate will gain a practical understanding of how to use social media professionally and of how to conduct digital marketing campaigns. The certificate is open to both degree-seeking and non-degree-seeking students.
